Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Call Me Maybe' reaches No. 1 on the Hot 100
Justin Bieber, you evil mastermind — you made it happen.
Four months after he blew up the Internet by having a dance party with Selena Gomez, Ashley Tisdale, and select members of Big Time Rush to a then-unknown song called “Call Me Maybe” by a then-unknown singer named Carly Rae Jepsen (who just happened to be signed to his label), the track has reached No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot 100. We are all your lemmings, Justin. You win.
That’s right — after approximately two million lip-sync videos, “Call Me Maybe” has reached the summit of the chart, dethroning Gotye, who spent eight weeks at No. 1 with his smash “Somebody That I Used to Know.” Gotye’s hit previously ended the six-week reign of fun.’s “We Are Young,” meaning that for the last 15 weeks, the artist on top of the Hot 100 is a first timer in that spot. (Although Katy Perry’s “Wide Awake” just leaped from No. 19 to No. 9 on the chart. The California Gurl would like her throne back, please.)
You’ve probably heard the song at least 47 times today already, so treat yourself to this amazing “Call Me Maybe”/”Semi Charmed Life” mash-up for a (small) change:
What do you think? And how long until Carly Rae changes the lyrics to “Here’s my No. 1 single/So dude of course you’re going to call me”?
