Rachel Platten's 'Fight Song' is now an actual fight song for Girl Scouts
Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song” has already garnered her a guest appearance on Taylor Swift’s tour, become a song of the summer contender and (probably) burned itself into your brain. Now, it’s a PSA for Girl Scouts, too.
Platten visits with four Girl Scouts in a new video, and talks to them about strength, empowerment and the meaning behind “Fight Song.”
“There are a lot of people who give you the message that maybe you are not good enough and the best thing you can do for yourself is to block out all of that noise,” she says. “I wrote ‘Fight Song’ as this declaration to believe in myself and that is similar to what you are taught to believe in Girl Scouts. Building confidence. Building character. And above all else being there for each other as a community.”
Girl Scouts USA is just the latest group to use “Fight Song” as a rallying cry. The track appeared in TV shows like The Biggest Loser, Pretty Little Liars and the trailer for Supergirl, and most recently Good Morning America used it for an inspirational campaign. After that instance, Platten began receiving messages from fans telling her how much the song helped them.
“The first time it happened, a woman who had cancer sent an email to her family [saying], ‘I have three months to live, but I don’t want you to be sad,” Platten told EW in a recent interview. “I want you to know this is how I feel, and this song is my anthem. I knew the song was helping me, but seeing what a difference it had had on this woman’s life made me realize there was something to this song. People need to hear this, it’s connecting to people’s lives. This is going to help.”
