Review: Dua Lipa's mind-blowing Hotter Than Hell Tour
With effortlessly smoky vocals and a stellar selection of songs, Dua Lipa proved that she’s ‘Hotter Than Hell’ in Manchester on Friday 7th October.
Performing to a sold-out crowd, the rising star took to the stage at Gorilla and fans clearly loved every second. Her show certainly didn’t disappoint.
Even before Dua’s set began, there was a huge buzz in the air. The singer’s name was up in lights and everyone was ready to see one of this year’s hottest breakout artists.
The clock hit 8:30pm. It was time. Marching on stage with her hair tied up in a bun, Dua kicked off proceedings with her euphoric third single ‘Last Dance.’ It was the perfect show opener and it really did set the thrilling atmosphere for the rest of the night.
Second in the set was one of Dua’s unreleased songs: ‘Dreams.’ The upbeat track spoke about crushing on someone irresistible and despite not being completely familiar with the tune, the crowd couldn’t resist throwing their hands up.
After performing ‘Dreams’, Dua explained that she ‘wasn’t feeling her best’ but she was still ‘ready to have a lot of fun’ with the crowd. No matter how ill she was, the songstress was determined to put on an unforgettable show and she did just that.
Next up were ‘Bad Together’ and ‘Room For 2’ – two songs which stood out for totally different reasons. The former was groovy with provocative lyrics whereas the latter was dreamy and spoke of karma. During ‘Bad Together’, Dua asked the crowd ‘are you feeling naughty tonight?’ – a question which was answered with many cheers.
Dua’s latest single ‘Blow Your Mind (Mwah)’ was the fifth song of the night and for the performance, she brought two fans on stage. The infectiously catchy hit sounded just as amazing live so we’re not surprised that it’s currently rising up the charts.
One of our favourite new songs of the evening was ‘Want To’ – a dark pop track with a killer beat. Full of confidence, Dua boldly sang ‘I’ll dance if I want to’ before jamming along with everyone else in the room. We wouldn’t be surprised if ‘Want To’ was chosen to be released as a single at some point in the future. It’s that good.
The 21-year-old then slowed things down with the beautifully chilled ‘Thinkin’ Bout You’ before taking things back to the start with her debut single ‘New Love.’ She dedicated the performance of her first release to fans who’ve been there from the very beginning.
Another new song ‘Genesis’ then followed before Dua belted out her global smash hit ‘Be The One.’ Encouraging involvement, Dua held out the microphone and asked the crowd to chant the lyrics: ‘I could be the one.’ They did just that. We had goosebumps all over.
The lights dimmed and Dua ran off stage. It felt like the end but, of course, no great show is over without an encore. Demanding more, everyone shouted Dua’s name in unison.
Coming back on stage for one final song, Dua performed her top 20 UK hit ‘Hotter Than Hell.’ It had everyone jumping up and down. The energy in the room hit an all time high and it was evident that some people in the audience even knew every single word.
At the end, Dua thanked everyone for coming. She told the audience that she loved them and that’d she be back; we’re sure most of her fans will be back to see her again too.
Despite being ill, Dua put on a fantastic show. Proving that she’s the one, she didn’t let us down and she didn’t run. At full health, we can only imagine that her set may have been even more perfect. It’s just a shame the gig had come to an end.
Dua will be performing in London tonight and she’s currently re-scheduling a date in Birmingham. You can view a list of Dua’s forthcoming gigs here online.
We’d certainly recommend that you buy tickets for one of Dua’s live shows if you can. She’s got a phenomenal voice and it’s guaranteed she’ll blow your mind. Mwah!
