Early Life
Heimo Korth was born on the 17th of April 1955, in Wisconsin, USA. Little is known about Heimo’s early life. He was raised by his mother Irene Koth and an unidentified father. From a young age, Heimo felt closer to nature than human civilization. This proved to be a major catalyst in pushing Heimo towards a life in the wilderness.
Getting Married
Heimo started living in the Alaskan wilderness long before he was introduced to the world. His only partner in the entire endeavor was his wife, Edna. The pair met when Heimo went fishing with some Eskimos. Heimo instantly fell in love with Edna’s striking features and the pair soon began dating. Even though Edna, who had a daughter from her previous marriage, was reluctant to move to the wild, Heimo managed to convince her.
Settling in the wilderness
As the years went by, Heimo ventured deep into the Alaskan region and decided to settle there. Even though friends and family pleaded Heimo to not make the decision, he was set on it. But during their stay, Heimo’s second daughter died due to a canoe accident. This brought Heimo face to face with the dangers of the Alaskan region. As a result, he relocated his children to somewhere else and continued to live with his wife in Alaska. The area was later populated and by 2015, four families were living there. However, the families live so far from each other, it is nigh impossible to provide aid in the time of need.
Life as a parent
Heimo Korth has four daughters, including the one from Edna’s first marriage. Millie Korth is the eldest of the siblings and is Heimo’s step-daughter. Regardless of it, Heimo has always treated Millie like his own, and their bond is evident. Heimo’s firstborn daughter is Coleen Korth who was born on the 29th of May 1982. However, Coleen passed away in an unfortunate accident on the 3rd of June 1984. Heimo then had two daughters, Rhonda Korth and Krin Korth. While there is little information on Rhonda, Krin is a US fireman and is married to a US marine.
Claim to fame
Heimo’s lifestyle is not something you get to see every day. This attracted several authors and executive producers, who wanted to document his lifestyle. The first recorded attempt was by James Campbell in 2004 when he published the book, The Final Frontiersman: Heimo Korth and His Family, Alone in Alaska’s Arctic Wilderness. Heimo was put into TV screens by VBS.tv when it aired Surviving Alone in Alaska in 2009. However, Heimo’s most recognizable role came in the series The Last Alaskans. The series aired in 2015 and followed the livelihood of Heimo and Edna.
