He is the son of author Joyce Maynard (Daphne Joyce Maynard) and Stephen Bethel. He is married to Liesl Martinez-Balaguer, and has a daughter.
Wilson’s maternal grandfather was named Max S. Maynard. Max was born in India, to English Fundamentalist missionary parents, and moved to Canada.
Wilson’s maternal grandmother was Fredelle Bruser (the daughter of Boris Bruser and Rona Slobinsky). Fredelle was born in Saskatchewan, Canada, to Russian Jewish parents.
