Zootopia adds new names to voice cast
Since it was announced in 2013 Zootopia has been kept under pretty tight wraps by Disney, with only snippets revealed about its plot. Now though, a pack of new voice actors have been announced, with some big names lending their lungs to the film.
Oscar winners J.K. Simmons and Octavia Spencer, and future Oscar winner Idris Elba will fill out an already deep cast. Already pegged for voices are the likes of Firefly’s Alan Tudyk, comedian Jenny Slate and pop star Shakira. Horrible Bosses star Jason Bateman and Once Upon a Time’s Ginnifer Goodwin will lead the cast as a cop and a crook thrown together in an effort to tackle a big case.
Zootopia takes place in a city where sentient animals live in a tapestry of different districts, each offering a different habitat for different types of animals. These include the inventively titled Sahara Square and Tundratown. Do you get the feeling there’s going to be a lot of alliteration in this film?
Goodwin will play Officer Judy Hopps, the first rabbit to make it onto the Zootopia police force. Meanwhile Bateman takes the role of Nick Wilde, a slick, confidence trickster fox who Hopps is forced to work with.
Idris Elba joins the cast as Chief Bogo, a hard as nails cape buffalo in charge of Zootopia’s police department. Meanwhile J.K. Simmons will star as Mayor Leodore Lionheart, Zootopia’s big boss, and Octavia Spencer will take the role of Mrs Otterron, an otter in search of her missing husband.
The movie hits theatres March 2016.
